When (and when not) to use Power BI

Power BI (and most other data visualization tools) are built to .. surprise … visualize data.

I see a lot of people try to force the tools to do more than they are designed to do. Most who are new to PowerBI think of it more of an app that they can manipulate data and save things off. It does not allow you to add or update data on the fly.

The lines are becoming more blurry between data visualization tools and business apps that allow you to input and update data. As Power Apps and Power Automate come to be more integrated with Power BI there will be new use cases created and this integration may gain some more traction.

For now though, stick to using the tool how it’s designed to be used and how we know it can be most effective – to visualize and report on your datasets.
